Okay so my grandma has a 1997 Ford Taurus. It's dusty retirement home blue. Its has blue valore/ suede/ cloth BENCH seats and the vulcan V6. It's at my house and my dad is considering scrapping it because my aunt hit a deer in it and its basically worthless anyways. My thing is the damage is super minimal and its 100% drivable. I need your oppinion Oppo, do we scrap it or do we make it MAAAD. Also what can I possibly do to a rolling love seat? By the way this is exactly what it looks like but this isn't it.

I knew that was an option but I want a road sure for it first.

It might be planning to pop intake manifold and other gaskets, or it might be good for another hundred thousand miles - I don't think you ever know with these. As to what to do with it - no idea.

Came here to post that. Ya beat me to it.

DD that shit. Three point ooooooooooohhhhh!

How bad is the damage? If it is not too badly hit I would fix it. You may even be able to find a local junkyard part in the same color

I'd fix it and sell it.
If the damage is fixable or not that bad, I guarantee some parent will buy it off you for their kid as a first car.

Caulk it and float it.
Seriously though, I'd give it a tuneup and a full detail and put it up for sale. Somebody will need a first ride for their kid.

Drive it until it hits 140k and then sell it before the transmission shits itself.

have it wrapped like this

Mileage?

Cut the body off and hit up lemons. Option 2 - lunch tray drifting.

It's a Vulcan. Pretty sure those run the same with 300,000 as they did off the showroom floor!

Remove all the doors, inside stuff (excluding seats of course), remove trunk and hood.
Hoon and Jump
![]() 03/02/2015 at 15:34 |

also remove all body panels

Continental 4.6 32V swap?

Yeah thats what I want to do for a quick flip. I just need to match scrap prices which is about $300 and all it needs is a headlight and a bumper. And i bet anything I can find a bumper in a scrap yard that matches it.

Like 120k ish.

Thats what I thought too. Do they make a supercharger for the vulcan?

That would be sweet !
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:27 |

I think its got some miles in it !

Looks kinda good but not worth the money , I'll just chop the springs haha

No FWD application though.
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:28 |

Thats my exact thought
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:28 |

Yeah I think thats the best thing to do because its worth more than $300
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:29 |

I think I wanna just park it in my back yard and rally it and shoot at it with my 30-06
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:30 |

Yeah that could be a little iffy
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:30 |

I forgot those are FWD !!
![]() 03/02/2015 at 17:43 |

I forgot those are FWD. Meh, if dropping enough to throw a coyote in it would be worth it to rwd convert it

Hmmm...I like that way more than I probably should.

build it. Convert it to a stick, spruce up the suspension and throw a turbo on it. Make it a cool sleeper to have fun yourself and keep the bench seat for the ladies

I'm ok with this.

Somebody might have offered one back when that engine was in Probes... but I'd be hesitant to do that. Yours is OBD2, which means it'll be pissed at anything you do that was meant for an OBD1 or earlier car (like the first gen Probe). Also, I can't imagine you'd be doing the transmission any favors by making it cope with more torque. Adding power to cars usually leads to headaches and walking. If you really need to get wild in a Taurus, try to go find an old SHO. First gen cars can be found in serviceable condition for a couple grand.
If it were my money, I'd sort it out cosmetically and DD the crap out of it. Or leave it ugly and DD the crap out of it. Not sure if you live in a rusty area, but if you do this would be the perfect winter beater. Good in the snow, good on gas, and almost no operating costs.

Yeah it would be a great DD even as is but its just too bad I don't need a DD anymore and I don't want to insure another car.

I know, right?
![]() 03/03/2015 at 12:08 |

Got-cha. Well, given the poor performance potential of El Toro, the smartest course of action may be to sell or donate it.
Or... maybe you can make this into an Oppo-team-building excercise! "How many miles can Oppo get on this old Taurus in 12 months?" Thoughts?

That's a really cool idea, I like that actually

I wonder how this would shake-out legally, like with insurance... Maybe you could sign the title over to the first driver to absolve yourself of responsibility, then each consecutive driver would do the same. I'm pretty sure that if you "buy" a car, you're legally allowed to drive it home without registering it. So you could "sell" the car to someone in Texas, who "sells" it to someone in Washington, and on and on. Maybe we need to get Steve Lehto to weigh in on the smartest way to do this?
![]() 03/04/2015 at 10:12 |

Yeah maybe because that's what would worry me. Maybe we need to talk to Matt Farah about how he's doing it legally with his million mile lexus.
